Recap: Amy told Zack she minted an NFT. Zack was trying to understand what it is and was asking who introduce it to her.

“Darling, what’s for dinner?” Zack walked into the kitchen after showering, looking much fresher than before. He saw the pizza and clam chowder on the dining table and frowned a little. He is not a fan of frozen or canned food, except for ice cream.

Amy saw that and said with an apologetic smile, “We are going to have an apple pie I baked yesterday with vanilla ice cream for dessert.” Zack was beaming with a smile again. He sat down by the table, quietly eating his dinner.

Zack is the by-the-book type of person. He is always groomed as long as he is going out of the house; he always observes table manners; he is an auditor. On the other hand, Amy is an artist and a chatty one. She is a painter, specialising in oil painting, and has recently picked up pixel art.

“Honey, do you remember I told you I had a pen pal who is from Malaysia?” Amy asked Zack.

“Yes, Jessica, right?” Zack has a good memory. “You lost contact with her after your family moved, right? Why bring her up all of a sudden?”

“You were asking me how I get to know about NFTs. It was her to introduce it to me. She is also a pixel artist. We got reconnected through the community I joined. What a miracle, right? This is going to be my best Christmas present ever.” Amy was so excited to tell Zack about the reunion. Her gestures were exaggerated. It would be no surprise that she would jump up from her chair any second.

“Do you know how we know we were pen pals? You know, I shared the pixelated Gobi on our group notice board and Jessica left a message that she had a pen pal from New York who had a dog that looked like Gobi. That started a conversation. She then told me she is from Malaysia. Her pen pal is a Chinese girl who migrated to New York from Hong Kong, and I went … wait …. that’s me!” Amy’s eyes are wide open. She looks like she was seeing a ghost. She is always very animated when she talks.

“So, what is this NFT thingie?” Zack interjected. He knows that Amy will go on and on talking about how she met Jessica all over again if he didn’t stop her.

Amy scooped some clam chowder with her pizza and had a bite. “It is a digital asset. It can be traded for cryptocurrencies.”

“You mean you cannot sell your art for cryptocurrency if it is not an NFT?” Asked Zack. “What’s the benefit of minting this NFT and how can I tell that it is an NFT? Your pixel art of Gobi looks exactly the same as the one you have shown me before?” Zack is getting frustrated. He has not progressed much.

“I think you can art for cryptocurrency.” Replied Amy, while chowing down a mouthful of pizza. By now, Zack has finished his dinner and poured himself a glass of wine.

“The pixel art still looks the same. No difference if it is an NFT or not. Alright, let me quote what Jessica said. An NFT is like a certificate of existence of any unique asset on the blockchain.” Amy recited confidently, stuffing the last bite of her pizza into her mouth and dusting her hands. She reached out to the wine bottle and picked up the empty glass Zack put near her, poured herself a glass of Argentinian Malbec. Her favourite.

“So you mean people will buy this certificate of your pixel art with cryptocurrency?” Asked Zack, “That sounds absurd.”

“Right? I think so too, but it is happening. You know, someone sold a collage of his digital art for 69 million US dollars. Isn’t that crazy? Come, let me show it to you. I will go grab my laptop.” Amy stood up, but before she could make a move, Zack said, “Where is the apple pie with vanilla ice cream you promised?”

“Ops, let me prep it real quick.” Amy headed to the fridge instead, took two mini apple pies out from the fridge and popped them into the microwave. “It will be only a few minutes.” She shouted, “Can you grab my laptop? I put it on the coffee table.”

Amy took 2 dessert plates out from the cabinet and scooped 2 scoops of vanilla ice cream onto them. “Ding” the apple pies were done. Amy put them on the plates and sprinkled some chocolate rice onto the ice cream.

By this time, Zack has walked into the kitchen with the laptop. “Here is your apple pie.” Amy handed over one plate to Zack.

“Am I supposed to eat with my hands?” said Zack.

“Ops.” Amy took 2 dessert forks out from the drawer and handed one over to Zack. “Sorry.” She laughed.

Amy took the laptop from Zack and said, “Let me show you the 69 million artwork.”
